As an elegant Victorian resort, it became a popular vacation spot after World War II, especially for the residents of heavily industrialized Liverpool and Manchester. The famous Rhyl Pavilion was demolished in the 1970’s, but has now been replaced by the New Pavilion Theatre which opened in 1991. Rhyl is also home to a SeaQuarium and Europe's first indoor surfing pool.
