3. Scotland
The Kingdom of Scotland was an independent state until 1707 when it formed a political union with the Kingdom of England, thus creating the Kingdom of Great Britain. The Scottish legal system is however still separated from the legal systems of the other three constituent countries and Scotland constitutes a discrete jurisdiction in both public and private international law. The Church of Scotland and the Scottish education system has also been kept separated from the rest of the United Kingdom.
