Northern Ireland is located in the northeast of the island of Ireland and home to between a quarter and a third of the island's total population. It is a part of the United Kingdom and has traditionally relayed heavily on shipbuilding and rope manufacturing. Today, focus has shifted to a service economy where tourism plays a vital role. Economic development has also been fueled by an emerging high tech industry and major investments procured from international corporations.
