Middlesbrough

Realizing its convenient location at the south bank of the River Tees, entrepreneuring Quakers turned Middlesbrough into a major port town during the 19th century. Teesport is still the second largest port in the United Kingdom, but Middlesbrough has diversified and is today also focused on the production of iron, steel and fertilizers, while its beautiful setting adjacent to the North York Moors National Park and the Tee Estuary attracts plenty of wildlife enthusiasts year round.
