Manchester

Manchester is acknowledged as a forerunner of the industrial revolution and was one of the first cities in the world to become fully industrialized. It gained its nickname “Cottonopolis” during the 1800s when it served as major hub for textile production and cotton spinning and is today pending formal recognition as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the advent of the second millennium, Manchester has turned into a centre for arts, media and higher education.

Manchester - Criminal Law

Located in North West England, the Greater Manchester Urban Area has a population of nearly 2,250,000 inhabitants and is consequently the third largest conurbation in the United Kingdom. Over 400,000 of these inhabitants are living within the metropolitan borough of Manchester, i.e. the city of Manchester. Just like any other major city, Manchester is plagued by typical big city problems such as a high crime rate that includes organized crime as well as more or less random acts of anti-social behaviour. Substantial community and police initiatives have however helped rejuvenate the area and the number of gun crimes has for instance decreased dramatically since the 1990s.

Since Manchester is an English city, it is within the jurisdiction of English Law. In the United Kingdom, there are three distinct legal systems: English Law, which applies in England and Wales, Scots Law, which applies in Scotland, and Northern Ireland Law, which consequently applies in Northern Ireland. English Law is based on the common law system, which together with Scots Law and Northern Ireland Law sets it a side from the Scots Law which is instead a pluralistic system where common law elements have been merged with a solid base of civil-law principles.

Finding a skilled crime lawyer and or legal executioners is not difficult in Manchester since the city is home to a large number of bigger and smaller law firms with various crime specializations. According to English Law, there is a major difference between solicitors and barristers. The solicitor will represent and advise clients, while a barrister is retained by the solicitor to advocate in legal hearings or to render a legal opinion. Legal Executives are qualified lawyers who concentrate on a special area of law. Legal Executives normally work alongside solicitors as fee earners. Before anyone can start working as a Legal Executive in Manchester, he or she must be trained by the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) and pass the ILEX Professional Qualification in Law. The test varies depending on which area of legal practice the examinee is planning on specialising in.

When in need of a crime lawyer or other legal professional specializing in criminal law, it is always a good idea to contact several reputable law firms until you find one that really suits you. Different solicitors and legal executioners have different specialisations and your chances of a beneficial outcome will naturally increase if you obtain a legal professional devoted to your particular area of criminal law. In a major urban area such as Manchester, you can take advantage of the huge profusion of legal experts and look around until you have found one that is ideal for you. Spending some time and effort on locating the right crime lawyer is certainly worth it in the long run.
