Liverpool - Immigration law

The high employment rate of Liverpool has always attracted migrants, from England and the rest of the United Kingdom as well as from continental Europe and nations oversees. During the 18th century, trade with the West Indies made the city flourish and in 1715 the first wet dock in Britain was built in Liverpool. By the start of the 19th century, 40% of the world's trade passed through Liverpool and this naturally required an ever increasing labour force. In 1830, the first intercity rail link in the world was built between Liverpool and Manchester and this made it even easier for migrants to reach the city from the surrounding region.

During the 1840s, the Great Irish Famine forced over two million Irishmen to leave their home country and many of them ended up in Liverpool, or took up work in Liverpool until they could afford ship fare to the United States, Canada or Australia. By mid 17th century, approximately 25% of the Liverpool population was Irish-born. Many things have changed since those days, but Liverpool still continues to attract migrants from all over the world and you can now find a rich collection of Immigration Law lawyers in this cultural melting pot.

An Immigration Law expert can help you with a wide range of different issues, including asylum work, human rights matters, work permits and marriage cases. They can be useful for short term stays in the United Kingdom – e.g. family reunions where family members are coming to the UK, foreign students, and adults who accompany underage students that attend private schools in the United Kingdom – as well as for long term stays that involves ordinary work permits, highly skilled migrants, asylum seekers and business immigration. Other areas where an Immigration Law solicitor can be very helpful is registration of British overseas citizens as full British citizens, registration of minors, naturalisation as a British citizen, right of abode in the United Kingdom, assessment and issue of the required English language certificate, EU cases where one party is a non EU/UK national working or studying in the UK, or other circumstances involving entering the UK temporarily or permanently.

Do not hesitate to be meticulous when choosing a law firm for your Liverpool immigration needs, since immigration issues tend to have a huge impact on many aspects of your life and the life of your family. A good law firm will be tentative to your specific needs and sit down with you to carefully discus any relevant aspects of your case. They will help you complete and prepare relevant forms, collate any evidence that you might need, and submit the application to the right authorities. In addition to this, they will help determine whether or not you qualify for Legal Aid. It is also worth noting that being rich cultural melting pot, Liverpool is home to a great profusion of skilled legal interpreters that will aid those who do not speak enough English. If you do not feel comfortable discussing complicated legal issues in English, ask the immigration law firm to arrange an interpreter for you.
